The Working Safely course is a general health and safety course for workers in all industries. This course will train workers to be aware of hazards in the workplace and their responsibility for safety towards themselves, colleagues and others affected by work activities.
Aims
This course is aimed at employees at any level, in any sector, who need a basic knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety at work. The course will also benefit employers by focusing on how individual actions contribute to Health and Safety in the workplace. It teaches employees to be more responsible towards themselves, their colleagues and other persons affected by work activities.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, candidates will be able to:
- Identify the hazards and evaluate the risks in their workplace
- Use appropriate workplace precautions for specific risks
- Assist managers in preparing written risk assessments
- Follow their organisation’s Health and Safety policy
- Co-operate and communicate on safety matters
- Carry out work activities without endangering themselves or others
- Report relevant accidents and incidents
Course outline
- Introduction and definition of working safely
- Identification of hazards associated with work activities
- Assessment of risks associated with hazards
- Using appropriate workplace precautions for specific risks
- Assisting managers in preparing risk assessments
- Identifying common hazards (including Fire, Electricity, Work traffic, Physical and verbal abuse, Working environment, Slips, trips and falls, Manual handling, Noise and Chemicals).
- Improving safety performance through Safe systems of work, Permits to work, Protective equipment, Safety signs, Emergency procedures, Accident/incident reporting, Health checks, Contract work and Inspections.
- Protecting the environment (waste control, pollution control and contributing to reducing environmental impacts.
