IOSH Managing Safely - 4 Days Public or In-house

The 'Managing Safely' course is a general health and safety course for all industries. Delegates are expected to develop an understanding and skills required for competent assessment, management and auditing of all health and safety standards within the workplace.

Aims

This heath and safety programme is aimed at managers who need to develop their awareness and competence to manage safely and effectively in compliance with both their company procedures and industry best practice.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, candidates will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of risk assessment within the safety management system and decide on appropriate control measures
  • Identify workplace hazards and the hierarchies of controls
  • Prepare monitoring checklists to undertake reviews in the workplace
  • Set reasonable targets and objectives and plan accordingly
  • Ensure adequate provision of health and safety training information and instruction
  • Identify human factors involved in the causation of accidents and occupational ill health and manage them accordingly
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, determine their causes and take appropriate action
  • Communicate effectively on health and safety
     

Course Structure

The course is arranged into modules and provides an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to contribute to an effective health and safety management system.  Topics include:

  • Safety management
  • Active and reactive monitoring
  • Risk assessment and risk control
  • Health and safety legislation
  • Hazards in the workplace
  • Reviewing and audit

 

Assessment of the Course

The course material is evaluated by means of a multi-choice assessment paper and a project.

Duration

The course consists of 4 lecture days including examinations and a practical assessment.
